Community Resilience.

Adome Lorika Foundation is committed to helping communities in Moroto Municipality and across Karamoja build sustainable livelihoods in the face of drought, food insecurity, environmental degradation and climate change. We believe lasting development begins when households have the skills, resources and opportunities to provide for themselves, strengthen their incomes and withstand environmental and economic shocks.

Our program promotes climate-smart agriculture, sustainable livestock development, agribusiness, youth led enterprises, environmental restoration and income-generating activities. We aim to strengthen food security, diversify household incomes, promote sustainable use of natural resources and reduce dependence on emergency assistance.

Working with farmers, pastoral communities, young people, women, government institutions, development agencies and private-sector partners, we seek to develop practical solutions that respond to Karamoja’s needs while building on local knowledge, skills and livelihood opportunities.

Our Target Livelihood Outcomes

Through funded projects and community partnerships, we aim to achieve measurable results such as:

  • Household economic empowerment: Support vulnerable households to establish or strengthen sustainable income-generating activities.
  • Improved food security: Help participating households improve food production, access to nutritious food and preparedness for periods of drought.
  • Youth employment and enterprise: Equip young people with practical livelihood skills and support viable youth-led businesses and agribusiness initiatives.
  • Climate adaptation: Increase the adoption of climate-smart farming, sustainable livestock management and other locally appropriate climate-resilient practices.
  • Environmental restoration: Support community-led tree planting, land restoration and sustainable natural resource management where appropriate.
  • Stronger household incomes: Track changes in participants’ income, business performance and livelihood diversification against their baseline.

Proposed Four Year Targets

These indicative targets can guide a funded program and should be finalized after a needs assessment, baseline survey and budget review.

  • 500 households supported to strengthen climate-resilient livelihoods.
  • 300 farmers and pastoral community members trained in relevant sustainable livelihood practices.
  • 200 young people and women supported with enterprise development, vocational skills or agribusiness opportunities.
  • 100 small livelihood enterprises established or strengthened, subject to market assessment and available funding.
  • 70% of participating households demonstrate improvement in at least one agreed food-security or livelihood indicator by the end of the program.
  • Community environmental initiatives implemented in selected locations, with survival rates and restoration progress monitored.
