Adome Lorika Foundation believes that Karamoja’s young people are a powerful force for community transformation when equipped with the right skills, resources and opportunities. In Moroto Municipality and across the wider Karamoja region, many young people face barriers to employment, vocational training, business start-up capital and access to sustainable income opportunities. Our program seeks to turn these challenges into opportunities for growth, innovation and self-reliance.
We equip young people with practical, technical, digital and entrepreneurial skills that respond to local needs and market opportunities. Through vocational training, business development, mentorship, digital literacy, innovation initiatives and support for youth-led enterprises, we aim to help young people move from limited opportunities to productive work, self-employment and meaningful participation in the local economy.
Our approach connects skills development with practical application. We seek to support young people to develop business ideas, establish viable enterprises, improve their financial literacy and explore opportunities in sectors such as agribusiness, livestock value chains, digital services, food processing, tailoring, bakery, repair services and other locally relevant trades. We also encourage the participation of young women and vulnerable youth who face additional barriers to economic empowerment.
By working with training institutions, employers, entrepreneurs, government agencies, development partners and the private sector, we aim to create pathways that connect learning to earning and youth potential to sustainable livelihoods.
Our Target Youth Outcomes
Through funded projects and strategic partnerships, we aim to achieve measurable results such as:
-
Practical skills development: Equip young people with market-relevant vocational, technical, digital and entrepreneurial skills.
-
Employment and self-employment: Help trained youth access employment, apprenticeships, internships or viable self-employment opportunities.
-
Youth enterprise development: Support young entrepreneurs to develop business plans, launch enterprises and strengthen existing businesses.
-
Improved financial capability: Build skills in budgeting, saving, record-keeping, pricing and responsible business management.
-
Innovation and problem-solving: Encourage youth-led solutions to local challenges in agriculture, climate resilience, service delivery and community development.
-
Inclusive economic participation: Expand access to training and enterprise opportunities for young women and vulnerable youth.
-
Sustainable income generation: Track changes in employment status, business survival, income generation and enterprise growth among program participants.
Proposed Four Year Youth Empowerment Targets
Subject to funding, market assessment and implementation capacity, the Foundation could work towards the following indicative targets:
-
500 young people trained in vocational, technical, digital or entrepreneurial skills.
-
200 youth-led enterprises supported through business training, mentorship, market linkages or appropriate start-up support.
-
300 young people linked to employment, apprenticeships, internships or self-employment pathways.
-
100 young women reached through targeted skills and enterprise development opportunities.
-
At least 70% of trained participants applying their acquired skills through employment, self-employment or further training within six months of completing a program.
-
At least 60% of supported enterprises still operating 12 months after receiving support, subject to baseline assessment and follow-up monitoring.
These are proposed targets for planning and fundraising, not completed achievements. Final targets will be set according to the needs assessment, available funding, local market opportunities and the design of each project.
