Investing in Education, Transforming Futures
Education is one of the most powerful tools for breaking the cycle of poverty and creating opportunities for a brighter future. Yet for many families in Moroto Municipality and the wider Karamoja region, the cost of school requirements, tuition, uniforms, and scholastic materials remains a significant barrier to education.
Recognizing these challenges, Hon. Francis Lorika Adome, Founder and CEO of Adome Lorika Foundation, launched an education support initiative in 2025 that benefited more than 400 students from vulnerable households. Through cash vouchers and educational assistance, the initiative enabled learners to acquire essential school requirements and continue their studies without interruption.
The program targeted students transitioning from Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) to secondary school, students advancing from Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) to A-Level, and other vulnerable learners who were at risk of dropping out due to financial hardship.
For many families, this support came at a critical moment.
A Mother’s Relief
“When my son passed his PLE examinations, I was very proud, but I had no idea how I would pay for his school requirements. We had already sold most of our goats because of drought, and there was no money left. I feared he would remain at home despite performing well in school. When we received support from Hon. Adome, it felt like God had answered our prayers. Today my son is studying in Senior One and remains focused on his future.” https://youtu.be/CiM3r7JZzDI

A Student’s Dream Preserved
“I had worked very hard to pass my exams, but after receiving my results, I became worried because my family could not afford school fees and requirements. I thought my education would end there. The support I received helped me return to school with confidence. My dream is to become a doctor so that I can serve my community. I am grateful because someone believed in me.” https://youtu.be/CiM3r7JZzDI

Restoring Hope to Vulnerable Families
For many households in Karamoja, educating a child often means making difficult sacrifices. Parents struggle to choose between school expenses and basic family needs such as food, healthcare, and shelter.
The education support initiative eased this burden and restored hope to families that had almost given up on continuing their children’s education.
Community leaders reported increased school enrollment, improved attendance, and greater motivation among learners who received support. Teachers also observed a positive change in student morale and academic participation.
Testimony from a School Administrator
“Many students fail to report for the first term because they lack basic requirements. This support came at the right time and enabled hundreds of learners to begin their studies without delay. The impact has been visible not only in attendance but also in the confidence and enthusiasm of the students.” https://youtu.be/CiM3r7JZzDI

Building the Next Generation of Leaders
Beyond providing scholastic materials and financial assistance, the initiative sent a powerful message to young people: their education matters and their future is worth investing in.
By helping vulnerable students remain in school, the Foundation is contributing to the development of future teachers, engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, public servants, and community leaders who will drive the transformation of Karamoja.

As one beneficiary student expressed:
